Our piece of land lays within Eaglehawk Neck, sometimes referred to as the "Neck" and the “gateway to the Tasman Peninsula.” The area has a beautiful and rugged terrain and several unusual geological formations such as Tasman Arch and the Tessellated Pavements that can’t be missed!
The Neck is bounded by the wide open Tasman Sea to the East with Lufra overlooking spectacular Pirates Bay, to the West Eaglehawk Bay extending through to more sheltered waters of Norfolk Bay.
A short walk from the car park at the Lufra Hotel leads down to the remarkable Tessellated Pavement. This unusual geological formation gives the rocks the effect of being neatly tiled by a giant.
Tasmania, Eagleneck in particular, has a unique landscape that’s worth a visit. Steps from your Hotel room or Apartment guests can enjoy the calming breeze, sandy beach and beautiful cliffside with the family.
The Pirates Bay walk, departing from the Hotel is a 5k walk along the beach around to the Jetties of Pirates Bay and the Blow Hole. Fossils can be seen in the rock formations around the Blow Hole point. A walk to the north around Lufra Cove, will bring you to further Tessellated outcrops on the approach to Clyde Island with is secret blowhole and the final resting place of Chockey Nuroo, a previous owner of the Lufra.
Located in Tasman National Park, Ship Stern Bluff is home to some of the world’s best surfing and wave watching.
Just off our shores, guests might catch a glimpse of dolphins playfully breaking the water’s surface.
We can help put you in contact with Dive Centers to experience the great diversity of the world-class scuba sites in the area including Waterfall Bay caves.
Take some time to explore both land and sea while staying in the area. From beautifully colored birds to the ever-popular Tasmanian devil, nature is truly alive in Tasmania.
The spectacular dolerite columns and cliffs along the coastline of the Tasman National Park are popular areas for climbing and abseiling.
Whether it’s from the comfort of our Café or on a boat tour, on a clear sunny day you might catch a glimpse of a whale passing by.
Extending out into Pirates Bay from the majestic cliffs at its northern end, this tiny island can be accessed via a twenty minute scramble along the rocky shoreline from the beach just north of the Tessellated Pavement.
Seen from the Hotel, Clyde’s Island sits to the northern end of Pirates Bay. A short walk continuing on from the Tessellated Pavements traverses Lufra Cove before reaching the cliffs and a possible crossing to the Island.
A visit to the Tasman Peninsular is not complete without a visit to the Port Arthur Historic Site where Tasmania’s convict beginnings and past has been enshrined into a must see showcase.
A line of ferocious dogs and detachment of military guards once kept a constant watch along the narrow isthmus at Eaglehawk Neck. They were on the lookout for escaped convicts from Port Arthur.
Port Arthur is known most infamously as a former convict settlement on the Tasman Peninsula. Port Arthur is one of Australia’s most significant heritage areas and now hosts a museum dedicated to its past.
With its rich history, it’s no wonder Port Arthur is a hot spot for paranormal activity. Join in for nightly ghost tours of what’s considered the area’s most haunted historic sites.
Glen and Margaret Campe begun Campes Coaches 32 years ago from a concrete slab in his backyard. In 1979 saw the purchase of their local school run and eighth months later another bus was purchased to serve the school bus run during the week and charters on weekends.
Locally known as the Neck, the isthmus itself is around 400 metres long and under 30 metres wide at its narrowest point. It forms a natural gateway to the peninsula that was utilised by the British in 1830s, when a line of dogs was chained to posts across the neck to warn of any convicts attempting to escape the prison at Port Arthur.
