The ever popular Saturday Live returns with our 26th September Eat to the Beat from 1pm to 4pm, with the revisit of the Sufrajettes.
Wendy Moles and Kaye Payne have been friends for a long long time. Both vocalists in the jazz field and over the years have been in numerous bands playing many styles of music. They formed “Suffrajettes” to bring together their favourite music in the now popular acoustic style... almost unplugged.
So while the Sufrajettes provide the Beat, it’s up to the team at Lufra to provide the Eat which they will do with a selection of taster plates along with the every loved Eat to the Beat combo platter, Taste of Lufra Platter or the easy nibbling Tassie Cheese Board. Food and beverages are served throughout the performance.
The Beat will provide a repertoire including songs from artists like Sheryl Crow, Bruno Mars, Steve Miller, Doobie Brothers, Dusty Springfield, Eurhythmics, Carol King, Fleetwood Mac, Crowded House and more.
See you 26 September, bring a friend or two and even stay for the night. We do a fantastic Sunday Seafood Buffet for lunch on the next day.
Book your table and quote Sufrajette’s Weekend and we will waiver your $10 cover charge and stay on for the night and we’ll give you 10% off our accommodation rates. Call us on 03 6250 3262.
The success of Club Motori Italia’s Lufra to Lookout Hillclimb – the first of its kind in Tasmania – has led the organisers to set next year’s date less than a week after the event. With some 35 competitors and a good showing of motorsport enthusiasts, the event got off to a great start and organisers have set a date of August 20 for next year.
Eaglehawk Neck hosted the event for only the second time in 15 years, but this time with a difference: competitors had to nominate a time for the hill and stick to it all day, losing points for being faster or slower. The win was shared by two unlikely cars: Adrian ‘Mozza’ Morrisby’s brand-new Subaru ‘shopping trolley’ (borrowed from his wife), and Bruce Heron’s 40-year-old Triumph Dolomite Sprint. In equal third place were another strange collection: Jamie Lonergan – Nissan Pulsar, Nic Fabrizio – Peugeot GTi6, Peter Bailey – Lancer GSR, Scott Wyman – Proton Satria and Graham Mitchell – Fiat 128 Coupe. Driver of the Day was first-timer William Ong in his standard Honda Civic, and Best Italian car was Phil Blake’s Fiat Abarth OT 1600.
The Club was particularly happy to have the Lufra Hotel in the mix, giving families and partners a good reason to participate and stay over for the event. 'It doesn’t happen too often that we can share our passion for motorsport in such a civilised way,' said CMI President Peter Lowe.
Lufra GM and co-organiser, Peter Derkley, said the event was a great success, filling the hotel at this traditionally low time of year. ‘We were pretty well full for the whole weekend, and more than happy to refer those we could not accommodate to nearby accommodation,’ explained Peter. ‘It was a pleasure to work with Club Motori Italia and bring together local volunteers and the fire brigade to carry off the day.’
The day’s activities finished off with an after-party in the hotel overlooking the start line with entertainment from Billy Whitton and Jamie Taylor.
The major sponsor space is already taken with TDT committing to its second year as TV Media sponsor and discussions under way to bring in other support for the fledgling event. Events Tasmania have also given the event a tick of approval with their sponsorship of a new interstate element.

The Lufra to Lookout motor Hillclimb starts at 10am at Lufra Hotel and Apartments, with heats running all day through to 4pm. Once the Heats are over winners will be announced at the AfterParty being held at the Lufra from 4pm.
Now for those that are still guessing, the Hillclimb is a motorsports event where competitors nominate their best time to complete the challenging course presented by Pirates Bay Drive. Any sort of vehicle can compete, but drivers must be licensed to enter. We expect a mix of vetran, street and modified for Hillclimb vehicles competing.
For each hillclimb run on which the competitor records an elapsed time less than his/her nominated time, a penalty of two points per second of the difference between the recorded time and the nominated time shall apply, and for each run greater than the nominated time a penalty of one point per second shall apply for the difference between the recorded time and the nominated time. The winner is the competitor who has completed the required number of hillclimb runs and has accrued the least penalty points. Individual scores will be relayed to posting screens at the Hotel throughourt the heats.
This event is a joint project between Club Motori Itatlia, Lufra Hotel and our Foundation Sponsor TDT and other partners in this event.
There will be two official viewing spots: Lufra startline at 380 Pirates Bay Drive, Eaglehawk Neck and the Finish Line only accessible via the startline via the free bus transfer running on the 1/2 hour or so from the Hotel.
Pirates Bay Drive will be closed between the Lufra Hotel and the Pirates Bay Lookout. Only competitors and authorised traffic (including the coach) will be able to access the Hillclimb course and will ONLY be able to travel uphill. Any cars that access Pirates Bay Drive from the top will only be able to go as far as the Lookout, where they will see the incredible view as well as Competitor Cars as they leave the course.
For public access to the beginning of the Hillclimb, enter Pirates Bay Drive just above the ‘Neck’ or at the southern end of Pirates Bay Drive bringing you to the Lufra Start Line. We ask that you take the direction of traffic marshals who will assist with parking your vehicle, allowing you to go to the Hotel area and see the cars rallying around the hotel. To see some of the cars already entered go to Lufra’s facebook album.
At the Hotel you will be able to mingle with competitors, grab a coffee, snack a beverage or bubbly at the cafe where you will be able to overlook the display of competitors and special display cars on the Hotel lawns. From there you will be able to board the coach leaving the hotel on the 1/2 hour or so taking passengers through the course and to the Finish Line official viewing point. At that point the local Rotarians will be serving coffee and snacks.
The coach will pick up again bringing passengers back to the Lufra or parking areas. Thank you Roger Self for supporting this event with your FREE coach service.
The AfterParty starts at 4pm in the Lufra Cafe area overlooking the Start Line. We have engaged Billy Whitton and Jamie Taylor to provide Live Music from 4pm at the Cafe. Between 4pm and 6pm we reckon we will get through the presentations for King of the Climbers and other Award getters.
For any further enquiries contact the Hotel via firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 03 6250 3262. Looking forward to a great turnout. Couple of rooms left for last minute bookings. Ring Now.
